Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – Martine Olsen recorded the fourth hat trick of her career to lead the fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle (12-2-1, 7-1) women's soccer team past Southeastern, 8-0, Saturday at the Southeastern Soccer Complex. In addition to the hat trick, Olsen also reclaimed the top spot on the Eagles' all-time scoring list from teammate Valerie Obita, who also scored in Saturday's win. Olsen has 68 career goals, while Obita sits at 67.

"That was very good win for us tonight," Embry-Riddle Assistant Coach Liam McIlhatton said. "The ladies played some really good soccer and scored some really good goals. We knew it was going to be a tough game because Southeastern had their senior night tonight, and its' always the case where they want to put on a show for their seniors and give them a special night, so we give Southeastern a bit of credit. They played very well. In terms of our own play, we were very clinical in front of goal. It was a very good win."

The Eagles' first goal came in the seventh minute off the boot of Katherine Ebbs. Tova Torstensson raced down the right side with the ball before sending a low cross into the box. Olsen's first-touch shot was blocked by the SEU defense but the rebound fell to Ebbs who buried her third goal of the year to put the Eagles up 1-0.

The Eagles' second goal came less than a minute later. Isabelle Haaranen's ball from the midfield released Obita who outpaced her defender and slotted a shot into the lower left corner to make it 2-0.

At the 16:52 mark, Janina Helwig connected with Gudrun Johnson who raced down the left side and played a square pass across to Haaranen. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Haaranen made good on her first shot of the game and knocked in her fifth goal of the year to put the Eagles up 3-0 at the half.

Just under 14 minutes into the second half, the Eagles earned their 12th corner kick of the evening. Kristin Sverrisdottir swung a cross into the box, but it was headed to the other side of the field. Torstensson collected the ball and swung another cross into the box where this time, an unmarked Olsen headed home her eighth goal of the year to extend the advantage to 4-0.

A minute after finishing a pass from Aimee Kasmally for her second goal of the night in the 70th minute, Olsen played a ball into Haaranen who, with her back to the goal, volleyed a shot into the upper netting to increase the lead to 7-0.

Olsen completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute and Gabriela Casariego netted her second last-minute goal of the season to seal the win.

With the win, the Eagles tallied their ninth shutout of the season and improved to 12-2-1 overall and 7-1 in Sun Conference play, while Southeastern falls to 3-11 and 1-6 in the league.

The Eagles will close out regular season play on Saturday when they host Thomas at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. Kick-off for the senior night game is slated for 6 p.m.
