No. 1 Eagles Sweep Florida Southern

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The top-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team handled Florida Southern with relative ease on Wednesday, sweeping the NCAA II 22nd-ranked team, 9-0. The Eagles improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Mocs fell to 2-2.
 
Deni Zmak and Simon Felix were dominant in both singles and doubles play. The duo put the Blue and Gold on the scoreboard first with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Nathan Leavitt and Valdimir Barabash. Chris Freeman and J.R. Leonik followed with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Emanuel Lueber and Benoit Paradis, while Anthony Grasso and Miguel Lopez Gomez finished the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory over Carl Lundberg and Charles Garneau.
 
Felix made quick work of Leavitt at No. 3 singles, dropping only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win. Zmak clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Paradis at No. 2 singles, giving the Eagles their fifth point.
 
Lopez Gomez knocked off Robbie Palmiotto at position five, 6-3, 6-3, followed by Grasso defeating Barabash at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Freeman battled back in the second set to pick up a straight-set win over Emanuel Lueber, the 34th-ranked singles player in NCAA II, 6-3, 7-5. David Spennare completed the 9-0 sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jorge Gutierrez at position six.
 
The Blue and Gold return to the Crotty Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. match against NCAA II No. 13 Valdosta State.
