HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Embry-Riddle softball team (5-10) opened its spring break trip to Hattiesburg, Miss. with a tough 8-0 loss to 19th-ranked Mobile (14-5), Saturday at Joseph &Nancy Fail Field on the campus of William Carey University.
The Lady Rams got their first run of the afternoon courtesy of an Eagle throwing error that allowed Jordan Coleman, who reached on a walk, to score all the way from first. Mobile added a run in each of the next two innings to increase their lead to 3-0 heading into the fifth.
The Eagles got their first real scoring chance in the top of the fifth frame when
Alex Wood singled to center and swiped back-to-back bases to reach third with one out.
Sarah Huey reached on a base hit, but was thrown out trying to and starting pitcher induced a fly out to center to end the ERAU threat.
The bottom of the inning saw the Lady Rams capitalize four hits, two ERAU errors and a wild pitch to add five runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Robi Zimmerman took the loss for the Eagles, striking out three and surrendering five earned runs to move her record to 2-3 on the year. Mobile's Kamaron Strickland struck out one batter and yielded five hits in the Lady Rams' win.
The Eagles will be back in action at 5 p.m. (CDT) this afternoon to take on Belhaven.
