DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The top-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team improved to 11-2 on the season with a 9-0 sweep of No. 16 Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison fell to 5-6 on the year.
Simon Felix and
Kevin Chaouat opened the scoring at No. 3 doubles with a quick 8-1 defeat of Francisco Da Silva and Jacob Allbritton.
Chris Freeman and
Deni Zmak followed with an 8-3 victory over the 16th-ranked doubles tandem of Marco Carvajal and Dario Macanovic at No. 1 doubles.
Anthony Grasso and
Miguel Lopez Gomez completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Gonzalo Garzon and Augustin Janssen at position two.
Grasso was the first to finish in singles play, defeating No. 50 Dario Macanovic, 6-2, 6-4 at position three. Freeman, ranked 37th in the nation, defeated 30th-ranked Garzon at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2, clinching the win with the fifth point of the match for Embry-Riddle.
Zmak took down Carvajal at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Felix was next off the courts with a solid 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kolt Byerly at position four.
David Spennare easily took care of Allbritton at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1, and Lopez Gomez finishing off the 9-0 sweep with a 7-6, 6-0 defeat of Janssen at position five.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they will host NCAA I UConn at the Crotty Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
