DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team extended its current win streak to six matches with a 7-0 shutout of NCAA I University of Connecticut, Wednesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles improve their overall record to 12-2, while the Huskies fall to 2-6.
The third flight ERAU doubles team of
Simon Felix and
Kevin Chaouat downed Andrew Ginzberg and Josh Palmer 8-4, but UConn's Mark Hosang and Parker Cohen came back with an 8-3 win over
Anthony Grasso and
Miguel Lopez Gomez at No. 2. Following a brief rain delay,
Deni Zmak and
Chris Freeman, playing doubles together for only the second time this season, defeated Wayne Harrell and Ryan Carr 8-3 to claim the doubles point for the Eagles in a match being played according to NCAA I scoring rules.
Freeman made quick work of Carr on court two, dispatching the UConn junior 6-1, 6-0 to earn the Eagles' first singles point.
David Spennare followed with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Zac McEntee at the sixth spot and at No. 1 singles, Zmak scored the clincher by defeating Harrell 6-3, 6-1.
Next off the court was Grasso who downed Ginzberg 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and he was followed by Lopez Gomez who bested Cohen 6-2, 6-0 at the fifth spot. Felix topped Hosang 6-2 in the first set and held of a fierce rally by the Huskies' No. 5 player 7-5 in the second to secure the Eagle shutout.
The Blue and Gold will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Mar. 28 when they host Xavier (La.) at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
