DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The second-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its 14th win of the season, thanks to an 8-1 defeat of the University of Northwestern Ohio on Friday. The match, which took place at ERAU's Crotty Tennis Complex, ran the Eagles' record to 14-2 overall . The Crotty Tennis Complex will be the site of the Eagles' next match, which takes place at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday against conference foe Webber International.
The Eagles won two of the three doubles points as
Deni Zmak and
Chris Freeman down Gustavo Rueda and Cassio Sirimarco 8-2 on court one,
Simon Felix and
Kevin Chaouat bested Daniel Rueda and Alex Hager 8-5 on court two. The Racers (6-3) got their only point of the afternoon when Emin Alpan and Thomy Johansson came from behind to top
Anthony Grasso and Miguel Lopez 8-6.
Grasso bounced back from the doubles loss to defeat Alpan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Freeman followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Gustavo Rueda at the second spot and
Deni Zmak scored the clincher with a 6-2, 6-4 decision against Daniel Rueda at No. 1.
The remaining three singles matches were all dominated by the Eagles as Felix, Lopez Gomez and
David Spennare dropped just three games combined. Felix downed Johansson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, followed by Lopez Gomez' 6-0, 6-2 win over Rutter at the fifth position, and Spennare turned in his fourth shutout of the year, blanking Hager 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
