Eagles Hit Three Qualifying Standards at ERAU Spikes Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle track and field team hit four NAIA qualifying standards on Friday night at two different events.
 
The majority of the Blue and Gold participated in the ERAU Spikes Classic at the Embry-Riddle Track and Field Complex, with two pole-vaulters, A.J. Bales and Kameron Turner each turning in “B” standards to highlight day one. Turner also set a season best in the javelin with a first-place throw of 53.73m.
 
Also in the pole-vault pit was Bailey Eaton who made her first ever vault and cleared the opening height of 1.83m.
 
On the track Breanna Goring stole the show again winning the 100m hurdles in an “A” standard time of 14.26 while also qualifying for the 200m finals tomorrow with a time of 26.54. Joining her in the 200m will be Kristina Kendrick who is seeded second with a 25.17, just behind unattached ERAU coach Crystal Bardge. Camaria Cannon also qualified for the finals with a time of 27.00.
 
Four Eagle men qualified for the 200m finals led by Leon Robinson who is seeded third with a time of 22.56. Steve McGinley (22.97), Joe DiGregorio (22.97) and Bryan Ray (23.17) also qualified in the event. DiGregorio (11.23) and McGinley (11.25) also qualified for the 100m finals with Harish Prasad (11.37) and John Watkins (11.43) also making the cut.
 
Aleiyah Ross finished the day on the track for Embry-Riddle with a season best mark in the 5000m, finishing third in 19:19.40. Eaton also ran in the event, finishing in sixth with a time of 20:18.24.

Another former Eagle and 2012 Olympian Sam Vazquez competed on Friday night, placing second in the 1500m with a time of 4:00.20.
 
Meanwhile, in Gainesville, Fla., Reta Woodard took third place in the discus at the Pespi Florida Relays, throwing an “A” standard distance of 46.32m. Bardge also competed at the relays, placing 11th in the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.35.
 
The Eagles return to action tomorrow in both the Spikes Classic and the Pepsi Florida Relays.
