Chad Modomo went 8.1 innings for the Eagles on Friday night, earning the win in a 3-1 decision over Webber International.
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The top-seeded and NAIA No. 6 Embry-Riddle Eagles will play on the final day of the 2013 Sun Conference Baseball Tournament; but, they'll have an up-hill battle if they want to claim the tournament crown. The Eagles (42-13) eliminated Webber International (35-22) from the six-team event, ending the Warriors season with a 3-1 win on Friday evening. The Blue and Gold will advance to play fifth-seeded Southeastern tomorrow morning, Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. The winner of the early game will take on sixth-seeded and undefeated University of South Carolina Beaufort at 1 p.m., but either the Eagles or Fire will need to beat the Sand Sharks twice for the conference tournament title.

Chad Modomo followed Stetson Nelson and Kevin Maloney with the third strong pitching performance for the Eagles in the tournament, nearly going the distance for the win. The Winter Park, Fla. native pitched 8.1 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing only one run and two walks while striking out five Warrior hitters en route to his sixth win of the 2013 season.

The Eagles got on the board first in the visitor-half of the second when Adam Cellini doubled in Jordan Johnson all the way from first after he singled with one out in the frame. After Liam Goodall got hit by an Alex Greener pitch in the next plate appearance, the Eagles were looking to extend their lead, but Greener got the final two outs in quick order, keeping the WIU deficit at just 1-0.

Modomo allowed a baserunner in every inning from the first through the sixth, but only one Warrior runner came in to score as Modomo stranded seven over the course of his outing.

Kyle Chastain delivered the game-winning RBI in the fifth with a triple to right center that plated Tyler Robbins from second and put the Eagle centerfielder just 90 feet from scoring. Jordan Romero accounted for the final Embry-Riddle run with a sac fly on the very next pitch, scoring Chastain on the throw.

Modomo breezed through the seventh and eighth frames and got the first out in the ninth before Ryan Regidor doubled down the right field line. Modomo gave up a single to Shae Cothran to put runners on the corners with one out, and he gave way for Ronnie Lozada who promptly threw two pitches before Jason Anderson lined into a season-ending double play to Johnson at first base.

Lozada's save was his fifth of the year and despite being out-hit 7-4 by the Warriors, the Eagles won their second consecutive elimination game in The Sun Conference Tournament.
