No. 6 @ERAUWSoccer Rolls to 8-0 Shutout of Oklahoma Baptist

Katherine Ebbs tallied six points against Oklahoma Baptist
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The women's soccer teams from Embry-Riddle and Oklahoma Baptist met for the first time in the 2012 edition of the Habitat for Humanity Invitational. That first meeting was decided by a single goal, but the second meeting belonged to the sixth-ranked Eagles (5-0) who put up four goals in each half to down the Bison (2-2) 8-0 on Sunday evening.

As was the case in the first day of the 2014 Habitat for Humanity Invitational on Friday, weather was a factor in the game and a two-and-a-half-hour downpour resulted in a saturated playing surface. The Eagles were unfazed by the less than ideal playing conditions as they dominated the Bison 24-6 in shots and 12-1 in corner kicks. The Blue and Gold finished 50 percent (8-of-16) of its shots on goal and saw seven different individuals appear on the score sheet.

Senior Katherine Ebbs paced the Eagles with six points on two goals and two assists in the win. Junior transfer Khyla Brangman came off the bench to contribute a goal and two assists, while Emmie Johansson chipped in a goal and an assist of her own.

"We're really excited to go 2-0 on the weekend," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon said. "I'm really pleased that we were able to get eight goals in and have seven different players scoring, which is quite different from years past. Our scoring has been really balanced so far and we're looking forward to continuing to develop that. Some players got some good minutes again today and they're showing that they're capable of making the most of their time on the field."

The Eagles' first goal came in the seventh minute. Andrea Frøshaug won the ball on the right side and completed a short pass to Ebbs on the overlapping run. Ebbs whipped a cross into the box that fell to Isabelle Haaranen on the far post and the sophomore notched her third goal of the season to put the Blue and Gold up 1-0.

A 12-minute span blew the game wide open for the Eagles. In the 18th minute, OBU was called for a hand ball just outside the penalty area. Kristin Sverrisdottir took the resulting free kick and buried a shot into the left corner of the goal to increase the ERAU lead to 2-0. At the 28:21 mark, Ebbs found Johansson for the Eagles' third goal and two minutes later, Johansson fed Frøshaug with a pass that allowed Frøshaug to race all the way into the six-yard box and tap a shot under diving Bison goalkeeper Emma Beck to make the score 4-0 at the half.

Although they continued to pressure the Bison defense, the Eagles were unable to find the mark during the first 30 minutes of the second frame, but in the 75th minute, Ebbs scored, burying a pass from Brangman. Dana Robins finished a cross from Annie Gelnaw four minutes later and Brangman got on the scoreboard herself with a penalty kick with 7:07 left to play.

At the 83:10 mark, Brangman found Ebbs for the second time in the contest and Ebbs tallied her fifth goal of the season to seal the win and close out the tournament.

"I want to thank Mike [White] and Oklahoma Baptist, Lorna [Brownlie] and Auburn Montgomery, and Mat [Dunn] and Northwood for coming and making the fourth annual Habitat for Humanity Invitational such a success," Bohon stated. "It was a really neat weekend. We always look forward to it and we were really fortunate, even with some tricky weather, to get in a good workday yesterday and have some good soccer games."

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Orange Beach, Ala. to compete in a three-team tournament hosted by Mobile. The Eagles will take on ninth-ranked William Carey at 4:30 p.m. (CDT) on Friday and Mobile at 4:30 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday.

"We know playing William Carey and Mobile on back-to-back days will be a challenge for us," Bohon said. "Hopefully we'll just continue to work to keep getting better every day."
