DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched its first win of the 2015 season with a 9-0 defeat of Sun Conference foe Ave Maria, Sunday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. It took just over two hours for the Eagles to notch their 11th season-opening win.

Newcomers Carlos Becke and Fabian Zierlyn registered the first point of the day for the Blue and Gold, dispatching Daniel Pardo and Rodrigo Torres 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Miguel Lopez Gomez and Luke de Caires teamed up for an 8-2 defeat of Zach Sadusky and Andres Martin at the third doubles position and the top-ranked tandem of Deni Zmak and Jaime Sanchez-Canamares Rios completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Elias Zaghra and Teddy Pince at the top spot.

De Caires was the first to finish his singles match as the sophomore bested Pardo 6-2, 6-0 on court four to put the Eagles up 4-0. The clinching point came at the sixth singles spot where another newcomer, Roberto Cuellar Rangel, notched the first win of his collegiate career with a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Martin.

In the remaining four singles match-ups, the Eagles surrendered just two games combined as Zierlyn and Rodolfo Arreygue each notched shutouts, while Becke downed Torres 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and top-ranked Zmak bested Zaghra 6-1, 6-0 at the first position.

The Eagles return to the court on Tuesday when they travel St. Augustine to take on Flagler. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
