DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The second-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 9-0 to NCAA II top-ranked defending national champion Barry, Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 3-1 on the year, while the Buccaneers advance to 2-0.

Hui-I Huang and
Anna Gotz, 8-2 at the top spot. Sonja Larsen and Ana Pain defeated Paula Couder and
Kathryn Bock by the same margin on court two. Elisabeth Abanda and Jasi Witherspoon finished with an 8-3 win over
Giovanna Tomiotto and
Ana Gonzalez-Hoy before heading into singles.
The No. 1 singles match up sent Embry-Riddle's Huang against Barry's Onila. Onila came out on top, winning 6-3, 6-0 and clinching the No. 1 spot. Larson downed Gotz 6-1, 6-1, Fritschken ousted Couder 6-0, 6-3, Pain defeated Tomiotto 6-1,6-0, and Abanda bested Gonzalez Hoy 6-1, 6-0.
Though Barry had already claimed the match, Embry-Riddle's
Meena Bennett refused to go down with a fight. While her opponent, Witherspoon, cleanly took the first set, Bennett came gave her all she could handle, forcing a tiebreaker to determine the outcome. In the end, it was Witherspoon who managed a 7-6 win with an 8-6 decision in the tiebreaker.
The Eagles will look for their next victory on the road in the 12 p.m. conference match-up against Southeastern University on Thursday.
