DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The No. 2 Embry-Riddle women's tennis team defeated the Florida Southern Moccasins 9-0 on Wednesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Blue and Gold (11-3) recorded its first two points via forfeit at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles as the Mocs' team was depleted due to injury and illness, and did not have enough players to field the necessary matches. The Eagles notched wins at the remaining two doubles spots to take a 4-0 lead into singles.
Eagle freshman,
Kathryn Bock, recorded the only shutout (6-0, 6-0) of the day in singles match against the Mocs' Cassie Eldredge. Playing at No. 5 singles,
Meena Bennett dropped the first three games of her match against Shannon Griffin, but rebounded to rattle off 12 straight games to win 6-3, 6-0 and increase the Eagle lead to 6-0.
The Eagles kept a clean sheet overall, as
Anna Gotz topped Miroslova Mniskova 6-0, 6-3, while
Paula Ortiz Couder (4-6, 6-2,10-5) and
Giovanna Tomiotto (4-6, 6-2, 10-7) earned three-set victories over Katie Taylor-Doran and Katie Stanford, respectively.
The Eagles will travel to SCAD Savannah on Saturday to take on the sixth-ranked Bees at 2 p.m. for their sixth Sun Conference match of the season.
