Zmak, Garnier, Sanchez-Canamares Named To Capital One Academic All-District Team

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Three Embry-Riddle athletes were named to the men's 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District Team on Thursday.  Thomas Garnier, Jaime Sanchez-Canamares Rios, and Deni Zmak, were all voted to the all-district team, which is chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and is meant to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.

Garnier (Saint-Anne, Gaudeloupe), a junior on the ERAU men's golf team, has posted a cumulative GPA of 3.67 while majoring in, Aerospace Engineering.  The junior has a season stroke average of 77.6 this season and was the Eagles' top finisher at The Sun Conference Championships (April 29) and the NAIA Fall Preview (Oct. 5).  Garnier has fired a low round of 72 this season and also has one top-20 finish at the Bash at the Beach (April 12). Additionally, Garnier's success in the classroom has earned him Academic All-Sun Conference honors each of the last two seasons.

Garnier will compete at the 2015 NAIA Men's Golf National Championship next week.

Sanchez-Canamares  (Albacete, Spain) and Zmak (Pula, Croatia) have led the NAIA No. 2 ranked ERAU men's tennis team to a 20-3 record this season with an undefeated 7-0 record in conference play.  The two have played at the No. 1 doubles position for the Eagles for nearly the entire season and are currently ranked fourth in the country.  In the fall they teamed up to capture the 2014 USTA/ITA NAIA doubles national championship and the National Small College Super Bowl Championship.  Zmak also won the 2014 NAIA singles national championship for the second consecutive year during the fall.

Both Sanchez-Canamares and Zmak were also names to the All-Sun Conference first team last month with Zmak also taking home the conference players of the year honors. Zmak is a perfect 18-0 at the top singles position for the Eagles this year and is the No. 1 ranked singles player in the NAIA, while Sanche-Cnamares is 13-2 at the No. 2 position for the Eagles and is ranked 17th in the nation.

Sanchez-Canamres, a senior with a 4.0 GPA in Business Administration, and Zmak, a junior with a 3.42 GPA in Software Engineering, are currently competing with the rest of the ERAU men's tennis team at the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Ala.  They are trying to help the Eagles capture the second team national title in program history.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in early June.
