GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Embry-Riddle women's track and field team concluded competition at the 2015 NAIA Outdoor National Championships on Saturday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium. For the fourth time in five years, the Eagles finished in the top 10 nationally, earning a seventh place finish with a total of 33 points. The Blue and Gold added six more All-Americans on the final day of competition, bringing the team's number of All-America accolades at the meet to 12.
The day started early for the Eagles with
Eliza Gazda competing in the marathon on Saturday morning. Competing in the first marathon of her career, the freshman broke the school record in the event by more than 18 minutes as she finished 18
th in 3:21:57.
Halle Green-Anderson started the afternoon off well for ERAU as she earned the first All-America honor of the day for the Eagles. The junior finished third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.06, earning six points toward the Eagles' team total. Green-Anderson concludes a very successful showing at the national championships as she earned the first two All-America accolades of her career after having placed fifth in the long jump on Friday.
The Eagles picked up two more individual All-Americans on the track.
Ellie Staker placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:07.50, while
Kristen Metcalfe finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 56.74, adding eight total points to the ERAU total.
Staker and Metcalfe also ran in the final event of the national championships, the 4x400m relay, with
Martina Tafoya and
Marina LeVine. The team claimed the final All-America honor of the meet for ERAU in the event by finishing fifth overall with a time of 3:47.15. The fifth place finish added the final four points to the Blue and Gold's team total.
Staker ends her Embry-Riddle career as one of the most successful runners in the history of the program. She won an individual national championship in the 800m earlier this year and is a nine-time indoor All-American, eight-time outdoor All-American, a three-time Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Year, and a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American.
The week's national meet was Embry-Riddle's final competition as a member of the NAIA as the team makes its transition to NCAA II. The Eagles had a very successful run in the NAIA as the school produced 13 individual national championships, 50 indoor All-Americans, 55 outdoor All-Americans, and 11 Sun Conference Athletes of the year. Additionally, six Eagles have been named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, while 15 athletes were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.
