LAKELAND, Fla. – Members of the Embry-Riddle men's and women's tennis teams will travel to Lakeland this weekend to compete in the 2016 ITA South Region Championships. Each team will send four student-athletes to the four-day event being hosted by Florida Southern at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center and Beerman Courts.
Tournament play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with doubles in both the men's and women's brackets. On the women's side,
Maria Turillo and
Georgina Wood will face Taylor Conti and Leoni Ponzi of Palm Beach Atlantic, while
Alexis Marshall and
Maud Mrad will take on PBA's Maja Jovic and Michala Burns.
Men's doubles action will see
Carlos Becke and
Juan Ortiz Couder go up against Barry's Thomas Bugeaud and Pierre Montrieul, followed by
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Mickael Faucher's 9:30 a.m. match against Rollins' fifth-seeded duo of Patrick Sell and Sami Kirberg.
Singles play gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with Mrad against PBA's Florencia Roncatti, followed by Turillo's match against Florida Tech's Erin Ergoroff. Marshall will play her first singles match against No. 9 seed Paula Lopez of West Florida at noon, while Wood will face Tereza Hejlova from Lynn.
Faucher will be ERAU's first singles player to take the court at 10:30 a.m. as he will face Florida Southern's Laurent Mailloux. At 11 a.m., Ortiz Couder will take on Rollins' Ahmed Albitar, followed by Becke against fourth-seeded Fernando Rivas of Valdosta State at noon, and Arreygue against Ecker's Rob Vasquez at 12:30 p.m.
