DELAND, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's rowing teams opened its fall season at the Hatter Invitational, hosted by Stetson, on Saturday at Lake Beresford. The event featured a 3200m head race and a 1000m sprint.
The Blue and Gold raced against teams from NCAA I programs Stetson and Jacksonville, as well as Barry and Nova Southeastern from the Sunshine State Conference.
ERAU competed with two Varsity 8+ boats in the 3200m. The Eagles' A boat, consisting of

Casper, recorded a ninth-place finish (14:10.8). In the Varsity 4+, the Eagles fielded three boats. The ERAU A boat (McMahon, Padgiotis, Treder, Powell, Popielarz) placed fifth (13:42.1), with the B (Chilelli, Thompson, Hemsworth, Loeffler, McBride) C (Pisacano, Stollenwerk, Bocrie, Hodum, Harmon) boats following with 11
th (14:38.6) and 14th (15:50.0) place finishes respectively.
In the 1000m sprint, the ERAU Varsity 8+ A boat beat Jacksonville by five seconds, while the Blue and Gold's B boat was defeated by Stetson's B boat. In the Varsity 4+ sprint, the ERAU A boat bested Nova Southeastern by nearly 10 seconds, while the Eagles' B and C boats came came up short against Barry and Stetson's C boats respectively.
"I'm pleased with the results that we saw today, especially as I compare them to last year," ERAU Director of Rowing
Jamie Francis said, "We're making good strides towards being competitive against our local opponents and hope the team will see this as motivation to continue to work towards our goals."
The Eagles will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to compete in the Head of the Hooch Regatta on Saturday, Nov. 3rd.
