DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team was successful in its final tune-up before officially opening the 2018-19 campaign, as the Eagles bested the Music City Icons 75-64 in an exhibition game at the ICI Center on Friday.
ERAU had four players score in double figures, led by redshirt freshman
Cellexia Foster who tallied 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Sarah Jones came off the bench to contribute 14 points, four boards and two steals, while
Nikki Tucker and
Lauren Ellenberger tallied 12 points apiece
The Eagles buried three straight three-pointers to start the game and never looked back racing out to a 14-2 lead. The Icons closed the gap to 19-11 by the end of the first quarter, but a 50 percent (8-of-16) shooting clip helped the Blue and Gold outscore the visitors 24-15 in the second frame and at the half the Eagle lead had swelled to 17 (43-26).
A close third quarter saw ERAU edge the Icons 19-17, but the final frame was won by Music City who outscored the home team 21-13. The Eagle offense went cold in the fourth quarter as they managed just four field goals, but the advantage they built early in the contest was too much for the Icons to overcome and ERAU wrapped up the game with the 11-point win.
The Eagles officially open the season on Nov. 10 when they host the Bahama House Crossover Classic at the ICI Center. The Eagles will open tournament play against Clark Atlanta at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
