ORLANDO, Fla. – Zachary Farner worked his way into the Embry-Riddle men's track and field record books on the first day of the Black and Gold Challenge hosted by the University of Central Florida on Friday. On his second attempt in the hammer throw, the senior achieved a mark of 54.46 meters, bettering the previous school record set in 2011 by more than four meters.
On the track,
Calahan Warren posted a personal best and provisional qualifying time in the 800m. Warren crossed the line in 1:51:11, which was the second fastest time in the event on Friday.
Shaun Bullock and
Terrence Bobet also recorded personal bests in their respective events. Bullock ran a 15:25.95 in the 5000m, finishing just behind teammate
Noah Kemp, who crossed in 15:19.75. Bobet saved the best for last as threw the javelin 50.70 meters in his third and final attempt.
Other notable performances on Friday included
Carlos Guillermo's season-best throw of 51.61 in the javelin, as well as season-best races in the 5000m by Kemp and
Andrew Carpenter (16:12.96).
The Eagles will close out the two-day meet on Saturday.
