Metcalfe, Gustely Named Peach Belt Track & Field Athletes of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. - On Tuesday afternoon, the Peach Belt Conference announced its Track and Field Athletes of the Week, and Embry-Riddle's Kristen Metcalfe and Phoebe Gustely earned the awards for Women's Track and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. This marks the first-ever PBC weekly awards given to an Embry-Riddle student-athlete.

Metcalfe posted an NCAA provisional-qualifying time in the 800m dash at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge. The junior from Mississauga, Ontario, covered the distance in 2:09.31, the fastest run in the PBC this year and third-fastest in NCAA Division II, less than two seconds off the NCAA automatic qualifying time. She also ran the 400m in 57.13 which is also the fastest in the PBC this year. She helped the 4x400 relay team to a 3:58.17 time, less than a second off their PBC-best set earlier this year.

Gustely hit an NCAA provisional mark in the discus with a toss of 44.17 to finish 10th at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge. The freshman from Coconut Creek, Fla., finished behind athletes from the Big 10, ACC and SEC in a field of 39 throwers. She becomes the first PBC athlete to ever hit the NCAA provisional mark in discus and her distance is a new PBC record for all meets. It is also the sixth-longest throw in NCAA Division II so far this season.
