NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season were announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and Embry-Riddle took home three of the four honors in the South Region.
Kristen Metcalfe was named the region's Track Athlete of the Year, Merari Coronado earned regional Field Athlete of the Year, and
Mike Rosolino was named the South Region's Head Coach of the Year.
Metcalfe received the honor after closing out the season ranked third nationally in the 800m with a time of 2:08.27, as well as being a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that is ranked first in the South Region and broke a school record this season.
Coronado earned her award after finished the indoor season ranked 18th nationally in the shot put with a mark of 14.52m, while also ranking fifth in the region in the weight throw.
Rosolino claimed Head Coach of the Year honors after leading the Eagles to the top ranking in the South Region throughout the season. He coached Metcalfe to an automatic qualifying standard along with five other athletes that posted provisional standards this season.
Metcalfe and Coronado will represent the Blue and Gold this weekend at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships, which will be hosted by Pittsburg State. The meet will take place March 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
