DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 10th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team improved its overall record to 5-2 with an 8-1 defeat of Lewis, Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Lewis falls to 3-4 with the loss.
The Eagle contingent jumped out to quick leads in each of the three doubles matches, but the Flyers provided a stiff challenge late in two of the three contests. The first match off the court was at No. 3 doubles where
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher downed Brandon Peterson and Ben Kasbeer 8-2. At No. 1 doubles,
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre went up 6-1 against Alan Braschinsky and Oskar Lusti, but the Flyer duo fought back to get within a point of the Eagles before the seventh-ranked ERAU tandem pulled out an 8-6 victory.
Juan Ortiz Couder and Lucas Bos had a 4-1 lead over Andre Norasith and Anton Levitin, but the Lewis second-flight pair won the next two games to make the score 4-3. Both sides went back and forth over the next eight games and with an 8-7 advantage, Ortiz Couder and Bos registered a break to win 9-7.
It took just 50 minutes for Bos to win the Eagles' fourth point of the day as he dispatched Levitin 6-1, 6-2 on court four. Playing at the fifth spot, Arreygue scored the clinching point with his 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Chandler Stimpert.
At the second position, Donayre bested Lusti in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, while Faucher, playing in his first dual singles match of the season, pulled out a three-set victory of his own (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) against Peterson on court six, and Vishavkarma battled Norasith to a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-8 win.
The Flyers notched their only point of the day when Braschinsky held off Ortiz Couder 6-4, 6-7 (9-11), 10-8 in a match at No. 1 singles that lasted close to three hours.
The Eagles are back in action at noon on Monday when they host West Chester at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
