DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team is favored win the 2021 Sunshine State Conference regular season title according to a vote by the league's coaches. The preseason coaches' poll saw the Eagles receive 89 points and five first-place votes.
In their last season of competition in 2019, the Blue and Gold finished fourth in the SSC regular season standings and went on to capture the program's first SSC tournament title. The Eagles were victorious in their NCAA II national tournament debut and advanced to the round of 16.
Following a one-year lay-off due to CoVID-19, the Eagles are anxious to return to competition and will do so with 12 returning letterwinners, including seven starters, that were part of their NCAA II tournament run. Headlining the Eagle line-up is reigning SSC Freshman of the Year and first team All-SSC selection
Marie Myhrvold Seim, and the 2019 SSC tournament Most Outstanding Player
Ragnheidur Gardarsdottir. The duo combined for 13 goals and seven assists in 2019 and are poised to lead the Eagles again in 2021.
The top three teams in the preseason poll all represented the SSC in NCAA II tournament play in 2019, including Embry-Riddle, Rollins (86 points), and Nova Southeastern (80 points). Tampa (74 points) and defending SSC regular season champion Barry (73 points) round out the top five.
The Eagles open their 2021 campaign on the road against Columbus State at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 3. ERAU's quest for its first SSC regular season title begins at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium on Sept. 19 when they host Saint Leo.
