GAINESVILLE, Florida - The 2021 cross country season officially began on Saturday morning for the Embry-Riddle women's cross country team as the Eagles competed at the Mountain Dew Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida. Embry-Riddle placed seventh overall in the race, totaling 202 points in the 4K race.
ERAU was without a handful of its usual runners, but still managed to place all five scorers in the top 60 and seven in the top 70.
Ukeyvia Beckwith was the top Eagle finisher, placing 40th overall in 15:41.1.
Kelly Steffens finished 50th in 16:16.7, moving up five places over the second half of the race.
Rachel Jones (54th - 16:31.4),
Maggie Allen (56th - 16:39.5), and
Sara Towers (58th - 16:41.4) were tightly packed as ERAU's third, fourth, and fifth finishers, respectively.
Grayson Iller (60th - 16:45.8) and
Abby Valley (69th - 17:02.9) acted as displacers for the Blue and Gold, while Laina Tallman Bogusta (70th - 17:30.6),
Tara Gilligan (74th - 17:24.8),
Nithya Chummar (87th - 18:22.3), and
Olivia Dalberg (97th - 19:04.9) also competed and finished for Embry-Riddle. For Gilligan and Dalberg, the race marked their collegiate debuts.
ERAU will return to Daytona Beach and host the Embry-Riddle Cross Country Classic in two weeks on Sept. 25.
