DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the second year in a row, Embry-Riddle has been selected as one of the sites to host a 2022 NCAA II women's soccer regional event. The announcement came when the NCAA II National Tournament bracket was revealed during the DII women's soccer selection show on Monday evening.
The championship field will include 56 teams, which will compete in a single-elimination tournament. Embry-Riddle women's soccer will host a regional tournament which will start on Friday, Nov. 11 and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 13.
The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team was awarded the right to host after earning the No. 1 seed in the South Region.
After finishing third in the Sunshine State Conference regular season standings, the Blue and Gold battled through the six-team SSC tournament bracket and downed Florida Tech 1-0 in the title game to earn an automatic bid to the national tournament for the third straight season.
The Eagles are 13-0-5 overall and are ranked 11th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association poll.
"We are really grateful that we are still playing at this stage of the season," first-year head coach
Liam McIlhatton commented. "We are also very excited that we get the opportunity to host the opening rounds. It gives us a chance to play in front of our fans and we know that at this stage of the season, the teams are all very good and it's going to be a very difficult game."
The three-team regional will feature Embry-Riddle, Florida Southern and Mississippi College. Florida Southern and Mississippi College will face each other at 7 p.m. on Friday night. As the No. 1 seed, the Eagles received a first-round bye and will play the FSC/MC winner on Sunday at 4 p.m.
