Varsity Four Win Highlights Women’s Rowing’s Regatta at No. 3 Panthers

FELLSMERE, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's rowing team faced two ranked programs, No. 3 Florida Tech and No. 5 Barry, in three races on Saturday at the 2,000m-long Canal 54. Conditions were fair with a 10mph south crosswind. 

The competition began with the Varsity Eight race. Megan Byrne (coxswain), Helen Carey, Elise Dezotell, Shelby Ernst, Sofia Lorenzini, Kendra Sanders, Helena Schmidt, Bethany Thompson, and Veronika Zdrazil rowed to a second-place finish of 7:04.2,  4.7 seconds ahead of Florida Tech.

The Eagles then earned a win in Division II Varsity Four as Lauren Enders (coxswain), Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Gwendolyn Powell, Kristen Vigna, and Alexandra Weilert won by nearly 20 seconds with a time of 7:52.9.

Byrne (coxswain), Ernst, Lorenzini, Schmidt, and Thompson doubled up and competed in the Open Varsity Four to cap off the action. Their boat stopped the clock at 7:57.4 to finish third.

Embry-Riddle returns to the water on Friday, April 1 at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
