OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Embry-Riddle women's rowing team received a bronze medal in Varsity 4 at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship. All races were held on Melton Hill Lake.

Both Eagle boats (Varsity 4 and 8) needed to place well in semifinal races early in the morning in order to advance to the A Final.

A second-place finish in the time trial yesterday had the Varsity 4 boat of Lauren Enders (coxswain), Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Gwendolyn Powell, Kristen Vigna, and Alexandra Weilert in Semifinal 1. They crossed the line in the same spot with a time of 8:06.507 to slot into the A Final.

In Varsity 8, Megan Byrne (coxswain), Helen Carey, Elise Dezotell, Shelby Ernst, Sofia Lorenzini, Kendra Sander, Helena Schmidt, Bethany Thompson, and Veronika Zdrazil just missed out on a spot in the A Final. The Eagle boat crossed the line fourth in Semifinal 2 at 7:03.905 on the clock, only a little under three seconds away from the third and final transfer spot in the race. They were instead placed in the B Final.

Later in the day, the Blue and Gold's Varsity 4 boat returned to the water in the A Final. The Eagles led early but were passed by Kansas State and RV Wisconsin near the end to grab a bronze medal. Embry-Riddle posted a time of 7:50.976, just three seconds behind the Badgers but five seconds faster than three-time defending champion No. 2 Central Oklahoma and 37 ticks ahead of RV Florida Tech.

Then in the Varsity 8 B Final, the Eagles were neck-and-neck with Purdue throughout the entire course until the Boilermakers slightly pulled ahead over the final 30 meters, dropping Embry-Riddle to second in the race and eighth overall with a 7:15.190. Still, the Eagles were faster than RV Florida Tech, Dayton's 'B' boat, Rollins, and Purdue's 'B' boat.

Next up for Embry-Riddle is the Sunshine State Conference Championship held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida, on Friday, April 22 at 9 a.m.
