DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Juan Ortiz Couder continued to add to his impressive list of accolades on Tuesday when he was named the ITA/NCAA II National Senior Player of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Ortiz Couder enjoyed the best campaign of his storied Embry-Riddle career in 2021-22, graduating as the most decorated student-athlete in ERAU Tennis' NCAA II era. He finished the season with a No. 5 national ranking in singles play with a 21-5 ledger. In doubles, he was 19-9 overall and held the distinction of featuring in the national rankings twice with two different partners. He teamed up with Andres Donayre for a 10-3 ledger at the top doubles position and a No. 11 national ranking, while his partnership with Luke Paschal yielded a 6-3 record and a ranking of No. 38.

"In my 27 years of college coaching, I can safely say Juancho is one of my all-time favorite student-athletes." ERAU Head Coach Dave Paschal said. "Some will ask, 'Do you have favorite players?' and the response will be 'Of course!' My favorites are the ones that do everything right. They really embody the Student-Person-Player philosophy in everything they do; that is Juancho. He is one of those unique student-athletes that you enjoy having on your team and can build a whole team around. It has been my privilege to be his coach."

Ortiz Couder was one of two Eagles to earn ITA All-America status joining Alexis Guedy on the NCAA II All-America singles roster. Ortiz Couder was also selected as the ITA/NCAA II South Region Player of the Year and was the Co-Athlete of the Year in the Sunshine State Conference.
