CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Embry-Riddle rowing started off its 2023-24 season strong, with both its men and women securing top six finishes at the Head of the Charles. The men came in fifth place out of 43 with a time of 17:23.657 while the women were in sixth out of 38 with a time of 20:08.031.

For the men, Connor Matthews (coxswain), Igor Martinovic, Roman Linkugel. Blake Paynter and Vaclav Kuncak were steady, being in fifth place at each split, eventually finishing in that place, including being ahead of 19 NCAA Division I competitors, as well as 21 seconds ahead of sixth-place.

For the women, Laurel Grein (coxswain), Kristen Vigna, Alexandra Weilert, Isidora Djurovic and Shelby Ernst, it was a similar story. They were sixth at the first split and never looked back, finishing sixth ahead of 32 others, including eight from NCAA Division I, and 20 second ahead of seventh-place Central Oklahoma, who were last year's NCAA Division II runner-up. In addition, this was also the highest ever finish for the women at the event.

The Eagles return to the water next weekend as they'll head to Philadelphia to compete at the Head of the Schuylkill. It'll be a morning start for ERAU, as they will begin in the Schuylkill River at 11 a.m.
