INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The 2022-23 season continues for Embry-Riddle men's basketball. The Eagles are going dancing for the third consecutive season, earning an at-large bid to the NCAA II National Tournament in the South Region. Embry-Riddle went 17-10 in the regular season before winning two more games in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, advancing to the SSC Title game before falling to top-ranked and undefeated Nova Southeastern earlier on Sunday afternoon.
Head Coach
Steve Ridder and his Eagles will be making their 18th national tournament appearance all-time, their third as members of the NCAA. ERAU will head right back to Ft. Lauderdale as Nova Southeastern will serve as the host for the South Region Tournament. Games are slated to begin on Saturday, March 11 and run through Tuesday, March 14. The winners of the eight Region Tournaments will advance to the NCAA II Elite Eight in Evansville, Ind. March 21-25.
Embry-Riddle received the No. 6 seed in the eight-team South Region, and is matched up against a familiar foe in third-seeded Alabama Huntsville (25-7) out of the Gulf South Conference. Saturday's game will mark the third meeting in two seasons between the two programs. The Eagles and Chargers played in the second round of the tournament last season with the Eagles prevailing, 82-67.
Embry-Riddle is 2-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament (the 2019-20 event was canceled due to COVID before any games could be played). ERAU will bring its 12-1 record against GSC squads since transitioning to the NCAA down to Ft. Lauderdale.Â
ERAU and NSU are the only two representatives of the SSC in this year's tournament, while the GSC boasts four teams and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has two squads in the field.
Game time for Saturday's matchup in NSU's Rick Case Arena is yet to be determined.
