OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - No. 6 Embry-Riddle women's rowing kicked off the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in a big way on Saturday by setting two program records and qualifying for the A Final in both Varsity Four and Varsity Eight. All races were held on Melton Hill Lake.

First up was the Varsity Four boat of Alexis Mathis (coxswain), Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Helena Schmidt, Aria Moses, and Briella Goldenberg. They rowed their boat to a sixth-place finish in the 13-team time trial with a program-record time of 7:19.350, just over five tenths of a second faster than the previous record. ERAU bested boats from No. 8 Rollins, Jacksonville, Tampa, No. 7 Barry, George Mason, and Drake.

Then in Varsity Eight, the Eagles placed second thanks to the efforts of Megan Byrne (coxswain), Shelby Ernst, Kendra Sander, Soleil Edwards, Sofia Lorenzini, Elise Dezotell, Alexandra Weilert, Veronika Zdrazil, and Kristen Vigna. The Eagle-powered shell clocked in at a record-breaking 6:14.680, besting the previous one by 26 seconds. It was only two seconds behind first-place Kansas State but faster than Jacksonville, Dayton, Rollins, Barry, George Mason, Purdue, and Drake.

Semifinal action began with Varsity Four as the Eagles just barely qualified for the A Final by finishing third out of seven, stopping the clock at 8:33.071 ahead of Rollins, Barry and a pair of George Mason boats.

Varsity Eight had a little more room for error in its semifinal. The top three would advance to the A Final, but the semifinal only contained four boats. Embry-Riddle crossed the finish in second at 7:31.860, besting Barry and George Mason.

The Eagles' first final on Sunday is with Varsity Four at 10:38 a.m. followed by Varsity Eight at 11:30 a.m.
