No. 4 Women’s Rowing’s Varsity Four and Eight Boats Among Fastest in Friday’s Time Trials at Dad Vail Regatta

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - Fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's rowing began the 84th annual Dad Vail Regatta on Friday with a pair of top-2 placements in time trials. All races were held at a 2,000 meter course on the Cooper River. 

The Varsity 4 boat of Alexis Mathis (coxswain), Helena Schmidt, Aria Moses, Alexandria Fife-Winslow, and Briella Goldenberg used a 7:41.719 to finish second in the DII-DIII time trial out of 11 boats, trailing only No. 5 Mercyhurst (7:21.343). Embry-Riddle beat out No. 7 Jefferson, RV Rollins, RV Tampa, and RV D'Youville. The Eagles will be in the second race of the morning on Saturday as they launch in Semifinal 2 at 8:08 a.m.

As for Varsity 8, Megan Byrne (coxswain), Shelby Ernst, Kendra Sander, Soleil Edwards, Sofia Lorenzini, Reagan Hurt, Alexandra Weilert, Veronika Zdrazil, and Kristen Vigna edged out No. 7 Jefferson by 2.3 seconds to win the time trial with a time of 6:43.944. It was the second-fastest time of the season by a Blue and Gold Eight boat. The Eagles also beat RV Rollins. All boats advance to Saturday's final at 4:10 p.m. Embry-Riddle will be looking to capture the Backe Trophy for the first time ever.
