PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - A pair of third-place results in the morning heat races pushed fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's rowing's Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 boats into the repechages later in the afternoon during the first day of the NCAA II Championship. Varsity 8 was able to finish high enough to advance to tomorrow's Grand Final while Varsity 4 was sent to the Petite Final. All races were held on a 2,000-meter course on the Cooper River near the Camden County Boathouse.

Championship action began with the first Eights heat that saw the Eagles place third with a time of 7:47.746. No. 2 Cal Poly Humboldt set the fastest time at every split as they went on to win the heat by 17 seconds (7:25.270) over No. 4 Western Washington and secure a spot in the Grand Final on Saturday.

Megan Byrne (coxswain), Shelby Ernst, Kendra Sander, Soleil Edwards, Sofia Lorenzini, Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Alexandra Weilert, Veronika Zdrazil, and Kristen Vigna returned to the course later in the day for the repechage and claimed the final transfer spot to the Grand Final with a second-place showing, edging No. 7 Jefferson by less than three seconds with a mark of 7:18.119.

In Fours, Alexis Mathis (coxswain), Helena Schmidt, Aria Moses, Briella Goldenberg, and Reagan Hurt stopped the clock at 8:39.054, finishing third in the heat after Cal Poly Humboldt (8:04.522) and Western Washington (8:25.552). Then in the repechage, the Eagle-powered shell stayed within seven seconds of first-place Western Washington but placed fourth in a tightly-packed field just five seconds back of the final transfer spot.

Embry-Riddle concludes its 2022-23 season with the Varsity 4 Petite Final at 11 a.m. and the Varsity 8 Final at noon on Saturday.
