PRINCETON, N.J. – In the rowing program's debut at the Princeton Chase, the Embry-Riddle men's rowing team competed well against some difficult DI competition on Sunday. The Eagles, were the only DII crew competing on three-mile Lake Carnegie course, and finished 32nd out of 41 boats.
Â
ERAU took on the likes of Ivy League's Penn, Columbia and hosts Princeton, along with perennial powers Wisconsin, Holy Cross and Georgetown. The Eagle 8s on Sunday were made up of
Ognjen Srbinovic,
Connor Goepfert,
James Zbitnoff,
Igor Martinovic,
Sam Clode,
Maximus Weitekamper,
Roman Linkugel,
Ben Kerns and coxswain
Connor Matthews. They rowed a fast first split on the morning, coming in at 7:43.113, which ultimately was around 30-seconds off a top-10 pacing. The Blue & Gold finished the full length in 13:50.550, which came in better than the likes of Holy Cross D, Georgetown D, Fordham A, Wisconsin C and DIII institutions like Mass Maritime and Marietta College.
Â
In the afternoon race, the Eagles competed against a field of 23 boats, and came in 14th, just outside the top half. Once again, they took on a slew of Ivy League opponents, along with Mercyhurst and the Navy Lightweight crew, Wisconsin and Fordham. The Blue & Gold split at 7:56.931, before turning in a final time of 14:03.112. That time put ERAU ahead of the Cornell Lightweight B squad, along with Saint Joseph's, Fordham, Wisconsin, the Princeton C and both Holy Cross' A and B boats.
Â
ERAU will hit the water again next weekend, this time after heading south for the first time this season. The Eagles will take on a field at the Head of the Canal in Melbourne, Fla., hosted by Florida Tech on Nov. 9.
