Women’s Track & Field Wins Inaugural PBC Indoor Championship

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A dominant all-around performance lifted the Embry-Riddle women's track and field team to the team title at the inaugural Peach Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday. The meet, which took place at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center, saw the Eagles total 258 points to finish atop the standings ahead of Central State (99 pts) and Flagler (71 pts).
 
The first gold medal of the championships went to Abby Valley who ran a personal best of 10:08.71 to win the 3000m. The Eagles grabbed 22 points in that event as Ariana Anderson (10.14.14) was second and Anna Miller (10:23.24 )finished fourth.
 
Valley returned to the top of the podium two more times on Monday, including a program-record-breaking performance of 17:43.11 in the 5000m. She capped the day by helping the distance medley relay team (12:33.45) to first place and was named the Outstanding Track Athlete of the Year presented by College Ave.
 
The first field event of the day saw the Eagles sweep the podium in the weight throw. Kirsten Rolle finished first with a throw of 16.24m followed by Madison Morris (13.27m) and Hailey Bruce (11.14m). Rolle and Morris swapped places on the podium in the shot put with Morris winning with a toss of 11.26 and Rolle (11.02m) placing second.
 
The Eagles also went one-two-three in the triple jump highlighted by Mikaela Miles' program record and provisional qualifying leap of 12.28m. Cerenity Daise (11.31m) was second, while Michala Daniels placed third (10.85m).
 
Miles (5.45m) was second to ERAU newcomer Brooklynn Gould in the long jump with Gould winning the event with a leap of 5.55m. Gould earned top five finishes in all five of her events on Monday which earned her Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year presented by College Ave. She was second in the high jump (1.57m) and the 60m hurdles with a PR of 9.16, took fourth in the 400m in a career-best 58.60 and finished fifth in the shot put (10.03m).
 
The Eagles racked up several other superlative awards. Megan Grant and Hailey Bruce shared the Freshman Indoor Field Athlete of the Year presented by College Ave., while Taylor Roth was a Freshman Indoor co-Track Athlete of the Year presented by College Ave. Ciara Thomas was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team, while Kelly Steffens won the Elite 18 Award presented by Barnes & Noble College awarded to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average at the meet.
 
Mike Rosolino was named the Coach of the Year.
 
Those who have hit provisional qualifying marks throughout the season now wait to see if they will earn a spot in the NCAA II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, March 8-9.
