HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's golf team is no stranger to starting the season strong. After beginning last year's campaign with a single-round program record, this season the Eagles performed just as well to start the season as ERAU sits in fifth after day one of the Griffin Invitational hosted by Saint Leo on Monday. It's the first time Embry-Riddle is competing in this event. Twelve teams completed two rounds at the par-71 course at the Mission Inn Resort. The field included No. 12 Saint Leo, No. T-15 Coker, No. 25 Lynn, RV Tampa, and RV Virginia Union.

Two members of the Blue and Gold hold down top-10 spots as Edoardo Scialanga and newcomer Ian Ball posted a 72 in round one and a 71 in round two for a 143 total to rank tied for sixth. Ball also ended the day with the most birdies on the team (8). Both are seven shots back of the co-leaders.

Tiago Barni (75-74=149) strung together three-straight birdies from holes 15-17 in round two. Joon Kim (76-74) made his debut as an Eagle, shooting a 150 with quadruple birdies in the second round. Ryan Gear saw a large improvement from the first to the second round, going from an 81 to a 75 for 156 total strokes.

Saint Leo (285-290=575) leads all teams with Eckerd (292-287=579) and Coker (295-284=579) in tow. Palm Beach Atlantic (291-289=580) sits just five shots ahead of ERAU.

Coker's Derek McGlaughlin (71-65=136) and Saint Leo's Enzo Barbaglia (67-69=136) have a two-stroke lead over the field.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the third and final round.
