DELAND, Fla.- The third-ranked Embry-Riddle women's rowing team stayed close to home this weekend to take part in the Stetson Showdown. The schools involved included Jacksonville, Nova Southeastern, No. 7 Rollins, Stetson and NCAA III No. 2 Weslyan. The women competed in three races, notably winning in First Varsity Eights and beating NCAA I members Jacksonville and Stetson.
THE WATER
- The course was 2,000m.
- Conditions worsened as the day progressed, with cross-tailwind gusts ranging from 7 to 19 mph, adding an extra challenge for all crews.
THE BOATS
- 1st Varsity Eight – Jolee Paulk (Cox), Shelby Ernst, Emily Retty, Sarah Kinlocke, Aria Moses, Abby Webb, Lily Burdick, Soleil Edwards and Alexandra Weilert.
- 2nd Varsity Eight – Kaitlynn Parker (Cox), Lorelei Carter, Danielle DelGrippo, Katie Braddick, Briella Goldenberg, Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Gracie Thompson, Lilly Avezzano and Sabrina Graves.
- 1st Varsity Four – Laurel Grein (Cox), Caterina Hart, Alexandria Fife-Winslow, Elizabeth Loughry and Mina Kaba.
RESULTS
- The Eagles opened the day with a commanding performance in first varsity eights, recording the fastest time of the event at 6:35.9. Embry-Riddle took first place, finishing over 30 seconds ahead of its closest Sunshine State Conference competitors. The Eagles also bested Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason favorite Jacksonville (6:41.5) and Stetson (6:46.6).
- Embry-Riddle's 2V8 continued the strong showing, securing a second-place finish with a time of 7:03.7 just 10 seconds back of winner Wesleyan. The Eagles once again bested the Dolphins and Hatters.
- In the final race of the day, the Eagles' Varsity Four boat clocked an 8:08.0 to claim second place. The crew outpaced two fellow SSC opponents, Rollins and Nova Southeastern, along with Stetson, to round out a successful day of racing.
