No. 2 Women’s Rowing Goes Back-to-Back at FIRA Championships

SARASOTA, Fla.- Second-ranked Embry-Riddle Women's Rowing repeated as Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Champions on Saturday. It was an easy title for the Eagles as they won by 67.25 points, almost doubling the score of second place, thanks to six gold medals and one silver. Also of note, it's the fourth time in the last five years the program was crowned state champs.

THE RESULTS
  • The Eagles started the morning session strong with a nine-second win in NCAA II fours (7:56.74).
  • As the top-seeded boat in Varsity 8, Embry-Riddle lived up to the expectations with another nine-second victory (7:02.07) in an eight-boat field. 
  • In the final race of the morning, the JV8 shell bested Florida by 17 ticks with a mark of 7:33.12.
  • The afternoon got going with doubles. Embry-Riddle raced down the course in 8:38.98 to place third.
  • F/N8 continued the program's winning ways with an easy 15-second win (7:29.52).
  • That was the first of three-straight victories for the program as the Eagles also finished first in singles (9:07.66) and JV fours (8:02.16).
  • F/N4 stopped the clock at an 8:56.09 time to secure sixth.
  • In the V4 "B" race, the Eagles added to their win total as the Blue and Gold shell finished first with a mark of 7:51.41.
  • Embry-Riddle closed out the FIRA Championships with a silver medal in varsity fours (7:49.49).
