DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Savannah College of Art and Design women's volleyball team claimed a share of the Florida Sun Conference regular-season championship with its 3-0 (30-22, 30-22, 30-18) victory against Embry-Riddle University Monday evening.
Cristina Payne led the Bees attack with 13 kills, 10 digs and five service aces, while Katie Richardson hit .421 for the game finishing with nine kills and three service aces. SCAD finished the match with 16 service aces led by Payne and Dina Lamanna and Richardson each added three apiece.
SCAD jumped out to 10-1 and 9-1 leads in the first two games giving the Eagles uphill battles for a comeback and the Bees held the lead cruising to 30-22 wins.
Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the final game behind four kills from Sue Delahanty who joined Noela Tola in celebrating senior night. However, the lead was short-lived as SCAD outscored Embry-Riddle 15-2 with four of Payne's five service aces in the match to take a 19-9 advantage and prevailed 30-18 to take the match.
Delahanty finished the night with a match-high 14 kills as she closes in on the all-time kill record for ERU. She now needs 15 in Embry-Riddle's final match of the season at Stetson on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. to tie the mark.
