DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—The second-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team picked up their fourth victory of the 2012 season Saturday morning by blanking the 20
th-ranked SCAD Savannah Bees, 9-0.
Adrian Bayh and
David Spennare got the first point for ERAU, downing the Bees, 8-0 at the third doubles spot.
Chris Freeman and
J.R. Leonik made the team score 2-0 in favor of the Eagles with their nail biting 9-8 (3) defeat of SCAD Savannah, while the match at No. 2 doubles saw ERAU's
Peter Francis and
Simon Felix take down the Bees 8-3.
The Eagles dominated singles play, as six players took down the Bees in straight sets. Bayh, a senior from Stuttgart, Germany had a strong showing on the day, defeating his competitor 6-1, 6-1. Freeman, a junior from Costa Mesa, Calif. defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-3 while fellow junior
David Spennare won his match by the same score, 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomores Francis and Felix continued the winning ways for the Blue and Gold taking down the Bees 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively. Leonik, a freshman from Shalimar, Fla. sealed the victory for the Eagles with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
The No. 2 Eagles improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Sun Conference. The Eagle men will be back in action on Wednesday Feb. 22 when they take on NCAA II rival Florida Southern on the road at 3 p.m.
