Embry-Riddle Track Sends 27 Athletes to Indoor National Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle track and field team is set to travel to Geneva, Ohio for the 2012 NAIA Indoor National Championships. The Eagles will have a strong presence at the national meet as they will be sending 27 athletes (15 male, 12 female) to compete in a variety of events.
 
The men are led by Leon Robinson, Joe Fuller and Alec Hernandez, each of whom have qualified in three separate events. Robinson is the only male athlete and one of only two Eagles overall that will have the opportunity to compete in two different individual events. Robinson will be seeded seventh in the 200m and 11th in the 60m, and he is also eligible to race in the 4x400m relay, a race that the Eagles are seeded eighth.
 
Fuller joins Robinson in the pool of six Eagles that Head Coach Mike Rosolino will have to choose from in the 4x400m relay. Fuller is also available to run in the 4x800m relay, a race that ERAU will be seeded sixth. He has also qualified for the 600m, where he is the 12th seed.
 
Hernandez will compete in the 4x800m relay along with Fuller, in addition to running the 1000m as the number 12 seed. Hernandez is also scheduled to run in the distance medley relay, an event that sees Embry-Riddle as the seventh seed.
 
Reagan Beal will join Hernandez in the distance medley relay, in addition to having the opportunity to compete in the 4x400m relay. The other two members of the distance medley relay are Evans Kirwa and Zach Kraus. Kirwa will also be participating in the 5000m, where he is seeded fourth.
 
Joining Beal, Robinson and Fuller in the pool of potential 4x400m relay runners are Bryan Ray, Brian Laing and Steve McGinley. Ray also earned a spot in the 200m as the number nine seed.
 
The 4x800m relay pool includes Fuller, Hernandez, Jonathon Brasch, Mallory Jackson and Brett Galloway. Jackson will be competing in the 600m individually where he qualified ninth overall.
 
The final male track athlete qualified is Jeffrey McClary II, who will be running the 200m as the ninth seed.
 
Adam Holdsworth and Monte Willett each qualified in the pole vault, with Holdsworth earning the four seed and Willett the seven seed.
 
The women's squad also has three athlete qualified in three events: Baleigh Hyatt, Kristina Kendrick and Julie Mayfield. Kendrick is the lone female athlete that will participate in two individual events. She is seeded eighth in the 600m and 16th in the 200m. Kendrick is also one of six potential participants in the 4x400m relay, where ERAU is seeded eighth.
 
Also a possible 4x400m relay runner is Hyatt, who qualified individually for the 800m as the 14th seed as well. She is also one of five Eagles eligible for the 4x800m relay, an event that has Embry-Riddle as the number three seed.
 
Joining Hyatt as a potential 4x800m relay participant is Mayfield. She is scheduled to compete in the one mile as the 11th seed as well as the distance medley relay, a race that will have the Eagles seeded 16th.
 
Lauren Eschbach and Holly Sandon are both set to compete in the distance medley relay as well as potentially race in the 4x400m relay. The final distance medley relay runner is Kira Ball.
 
Rounding out the 4x400m relay pool are Breanna Goring and Beatrice Enckell. Goring will also be competing individually in the 60m hurdles where she is the 12th seed.
 
Along with Hyatt and Mayfield, the pool of possible 4x800m relay participants includes Ellie Staker, Nicole Bonk and Karina Coelho. Staker and Coelho will also be running in the 1000m; Staker comes in as the number one seed while Coelho is seeded eighth. Also claiming a top seed is Bonk who set the fastest time in the country thus far in the 3000m Race Walk (14:54.19).
 
The final participant for the Eagles is Reta Woodard. Woodard qualified as the top seed in the weight throw, an event that she finished third overall in at last year's NAIA Indoor National Championships.
 
The NAIA Indoor National Championships will be held at the SPIRE Institute Track and Field Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio. The meet gets underway on Thursday, Mar. 1, beginning with the women's pentathlon at 1 p.m. and the men's heptathlon at 1:30 p.m. The first track events will be the women's 5000m at 4 p.m. followed by the men's 5000m, featuring ERAU's Evans Kirwa, at 4:45 p.m. Field events will begin on Friday, Mar. 2, beginning with the men's weight throw at 1 p.m. and the women's long jump at 2 p.m.
