Peter Francis and Simon Felix
BOCA RATON, Fla. –NCAA No. 4 Lynn handed the second-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team its second loss of 2012 with a 5-2 decision against the Eagles on Sunday. The Fighting Knights overcame a 2-1 deficit after doubles to improve their overall record to 14-1 on the year. The Eagles move to 13-2 with the loss.

Lynn scored the first point of the day when the NCAA II No. 3 tandem of Willi Wolfer and Vlad Cirla topped Adrian Bayh and Patrick Besch 8-4 at the top doubles spot. On court three, Simon Felix and Peter Francis fell behind 4-1, but battled back to take the match at No. 3 doubles 8-6, giving the Eagles their first point of the day. At No. 2 doubles,  Chris Freeman and J.R. Leonik, ranked 10th in the NAIA, held off Max Kouvate and George Laffey 9-8 (7-2) to give ERAU a 2-1 edge.

Cirla leveled the team score with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Besch at No. 2 singles. On court one, eighth-ranked Wolfer pulled out a 7-6 (7-4) win in the first set and took the second 6-1 over NAIA No. 1 Freeman to reclaim the lead for the Fighting Knights. At the fifth spot, Iannozzi extended the Lynn advantage to 4-2 with a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Francis.

The clinching point came at the third spot where it took three hours to decide the match between Felix and Pavanelli. Felix grabbed the first set 6-4, but Pavanelli took the second by the same margin to force a third set tiebreaker. Both players held serve in the first nine games, but Pavaelli was able to break Felix to win the third set 6-4 and clinch the match for the Fighting Knights.

The Eagles' next match will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday when they go on the road to Babson Park to take on conference foe Webber International.
