The Eagles found themselves down 3-0 early after dropping all three doubles matches. Kayla Casey and Madeline Scholemmer were the first to register a point, topping
Paola Montero and
Giovanna Tomiotto 8-2. Taylor Coffman and Sarita Adhikary followed with a 9-7 edge over
Kristina Marova and
Hui-I Huang at the top spot and Lauren Pineda and Fatina Clementino completed the doubles sweep by holding off
Ana Gonzalez-Hoy and
Meena Bennett 9-8 (7-3) at No. 3.
The first singles match off the court was at the top spot where Huang, the reigning Sun Conference Player of the Week, earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Coffman for the Eagles' first point of the day.
At No. 2 singles, Marova took the first set against Adihkary 6-3, but the Mustang senior jumped out to a 3-0 advantage and, leading 5-4, was serving for the match and had two set points. However, Marova rebounded to win the next three games and took the set 7-5 to pull the Eagles with one (3-2).
MSU extended its advantage to 4-2 when Kayla Casey bested Montero 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 and secured the team win when Pineda downed Gonzalez-Hoy 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5. Kendra Casey registered a 6-, 6-3 victory over Bennett at the sixth spot and Scholemmer topped Tomiotto at the fourth position for the seventh and final Mustang point.
The Eagles will return to action on Mar. 18 when they host NAIA No. 14 Oklahoma Baptist.
