DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Head Women's Soccer Coach
Samantha Bohon was inducted to the Seabreeze High School Hall of Fame on Wednesday. Bohon was officially recognized prior to the Sandcrabs' final home game of the season and shared the moment with her mother, who was a member of a Seabreeze state championship tennis team, and her father who is also a Seabreeze alumnus.
Bohon established herself as a standout athletically, lettering in three sports before graduating in 1994. In addition to soccer, she lettered in basketball and earned All-Conference and All-County recognition, and qualified for the state tournament in golf.
The majority of Bohon's high school athletic accolades came on the soccer field. In her four seasons with the Sandcrabs, she garnered All-Area, All-Conference, All-District and All-State recognition on multiple occasions. She was Seabreeze's leading scorer in each of her four seasons and was a three-time Volusia County scoring leader. Tabbed as the County Player of the Year by the Orlando Sentinel, Baggett was named a Parade All-American as a senior and capped her high school career with 155 goals and 121 assists.
After high school, Baggett continued her soccer career as a four-year letterwinner at Duke University. She was also selected to the U.S. U-21 National Team and served as team captain from 1998-2000 and was a floating member of the 1999 Women's World Cup Residency program. She was an assistant coach for four seasons at NCAA I Tennessee before taking over the women's program at Embry-Riddle in 2007.
Bohon also excelled off the field while at Seabreeze. She carried a 3.5 grade point average and earned an Academic Letter. She was a member of the National Honor Society, was a Superintendent's Scholar and was inducted into the Society of Excellence.
Bohon was also involved on her high school campus and in her local community. She was a member of the SHS Student Government, serving in the Student Senate as a freshman and senior. She was her sophomore and junior Class President and earned the Tomorrow's Leader Award, as well as a nomination for the Hugh O'Brien Youth Award. Her community service activities included volunteering for the Special Olympics, serving as the Registration Chairman for the SGA Blood Drive, coordinating the school's Hurricane Andrew relief efforts, being President and Secretary of the Human Relations, and being a member of Students Against Drunk Driving. She also served as a peer counselor.
In eight seasons as the Eagles' head coach, Bohon has led ERAU to eight consecutive NAIA national tournament appearances. In 2014, the Eagles ascended to the top of the NAIA national rankings and closed out a record-breaking campaign in the semifinal round of the national tournament for the first time in program history.
