LAKELAND, Fla. – Two doubles and three singles victories helped the second-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team to a 5-1 defeat of Sun Conference foe Southeastern on Thursday. The win improved the Eagles' overall record 4-0 and their conference record 2-0.
 
The Eagles took an early lead as Miguel Lopez Gomez and Luke de Caires notched an 8-2 win against Drew Dickens and Aaron Skingley at No. 3 doubles. Fabian Zierlyn and Carlos Becke made it 2-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold with their 8-2 decision against Jordan Harris and Patrick Kearney on court two.
 
The Eagles appeared to be on their way to a doubles sweep as the top-ranked duo of Deni Zmak and Jaime Sanchez-Canamares Rios jumped out to a 6-1 lead over David Veliz and Gelawdiyos Haile at the top doubles post, but the Southeastern team rallied to win four straight games, and recorded a 9-7 upset to put the Fire on the board, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Eagles.
 
In singles, the Fire were unable to close the gap as the Eagles registered three straight-set wins. Becke was the first off the court following his 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Harris at the No. 3 position.
 
Zierlyn followed with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Dickens at No. 3 singles, and for the third time this season, Rodolfo Arreygue scored the clincher for the Blue and Gold, downing Nate Gangelhoff 6-2, 6-0.
 
The Eagles' next match will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday when they welcome NCAA II No. 3 Barry to the Crotty Tennis Complex.
