DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's track field team once again exuded its dominance over the Sun Conference as the Eagles won their seventh consecutive conference title on Sunday afternoon. The Blue and Gold racked up 204 points to win this weekend's meet, while Webber International finished as the runner-up with 127 points, with Northwood finishing third with 104 points.
The Eagles began the second day of competition in fourth place, but quickly regained the lead as the team picked up 23 points in the first event of the day, the 3000m Steeplechase.
Jaena Smith led the way for the ERAU in the race, as she was the second place finisher with a time of 13:22.23. The Eagles also claimed the next three positions in the event as
Aleiyah Ross (14:04.60),
Brianna Paczynski (14:16.90), and
Maite Moscoso (14:46.61) finished third through fifth.
The 1500m saw a few more Eagles add points to the team total.
Ellie Staker easily won the event by almost 14 seconds with an "A" standard time of 4:33.26, giving the Blue and Gold ten points.
Alex Orr (5:21.34) and
Rebecca Love (5:25.98) then added three total points as they finished seventh and eighth respectively.
Halle Green-Anderson won the 100m hurdles in very exciting fashion as she beat Mariah Johnson of Northwood by just .01 second to become the conference champion in the event. Green-Anderson's "A" standard time of 14.56 added 10 points to Eagles' team total.
Martina Tafoya also scored five points for ERAU in the event as she finished fourth with a time of 16.03.
The Blue and Gold had a very impressive showing in the 400m as four women scored points.
Kristen Metcalfe won the event with an "A" standard time of 56.37 to provide the Eagles with 10 points, while Staker finished second with a "B" standard time of 57.02 to give ERAU eight more points.
Marina LeVine (58.35) finished fourth to give the Eagles five points, while
Martina Tafoya's (59.56) seventh place finish added two points to the Embry-Riddle total.
ERAU earned seven more points in the 100m as Green-Anderson placed fifth with a time of 12.48 and
Kandice Dixon finished fifth as she crossed the finish line in 12.61.
Staker earned 10 more points for the Eagles in the 800m as she won the event with a time of 2:18.95. LeVine (2:28.34) and Love (2:28.47) added nine more points, as they were the race's fifth and sixth place finishers.
Tafoya (1:04.98) and Green-Anderson (1:05.00) gave the Eagles 10 and eight points, respectively, as they were the top two finishers in the 400m hurdles.
The Eagles gained five points from Dixon and
Alana Bell in the 200m. Dixon finished fifth overall with a season-best time of 25.58, while Bell was the event's eighth place finisher with a time of 26.81.
The penultimate track event of the day, the 5000m, saw two more women earn points for ERAU. Orr gave the Eagles six points by placing third with a time of 20:40.86, while Smith added two points by finishing seventh in 21:38.23.
The final track event of the day was the 4x400m relay. The Eagles' team of
Camaria Cannon,
Marina LeVine,
Tamara Chambers, and
Shonte Miller finished third in the event with a time of 4:04.43 to give ERAU another six points.
Similar to the track events, the field events also began well for the Eagles. Freshman
Stephanie Mueller started things off by winning the pole vault with a conference-meet record height of 3.25m, giving the Eagles 10 points.
Green-Anderson also set a new conference-meet record mark in the long jump as she won the event with an "A" standard leap of 6.05m, earning another 10 points for the Eagles.
Daisha Brown added two more points as she placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.03m.
Cristina Isenard tacked on five more points for Embry-Riddle as she finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.26m. Isenard also scored three points in the discus throw as she placed sixth in the event with a career-best throw of 29.71m. Alicia Jackson (25.27m) and
Audrey Parios (17.35m) also set personal records in the discus throw.
At the conclusion of the meet, all competitors who finished in the top three of their events were named All-Conference performers.
Several Eagles also received other individual awards.
Ellie Staker was named the Sun Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Year for the third time in four years as she scored more points than any other woman at the meet.
Evanna Ramirez was also voted the league's Champions of Character award winner.
The last individual award was presented to ERAU head coach
Mike Rosolino as he was the named the Sun Conference Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career.
