DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team got out to a strong start on Wednesday afternoon at the Crotty Tennis Complex to defeat Flagler 7-2. The Eagles controlled doubles play, winning all three matches. Then in singles play, the bottom three Eagles quickly bested their opponents to clinch the victory for the home side. With the win, ERAU moves to 3-1 on the year while the Saints fall to 3-2.

The Eagles began the afternoon by sweeping the Saints in doubles action. Carlos Becke and Fabian Zierleyn handed Hermann Gertmann and Willy Hasselberg an 8-2 loss right out of the gate. Deni Zmak and Juan Ortiz Couder fell behind early in their match but came back to defeat the pairing of Lukas Storck and Kevin Gonzalez, 8-5. Then the pairing of Rodolfo Arreygue and Mickael Faucher bested Lennart Luneborg and Konstantin Dustmann, 8-4.

As the match moved to singles competition, the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches came through big for the Eagles. Ortiz Couder won easily in the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-1 and not long after, Arreygue clinched the win for the Eagles in the No. 4 spot. He quickly put away Luneborg, 6-3, 6-1. Luke de Caires was victirous from the No. 6 spot for the Blue and Gold, besting Daniel Arrien by dual 6-2 matches. Zmak was the other Eagle to win his singles match, at the No. 1 position. He pulled out a tough decision in the first set, 7-5 and then downed his competitor, Gertmann, 6-2 in the next set.

The Saints came away with two points in the match as Storck scraped by Becke (6-2, 4-6, 10-8) and Gonzalez pulled out a win over Zierleyn (7-6, 6-4).

The Eagles take a week and a half hiatus until Saturday, Feb. 27 when Barry comes to the Crotty Tennis Complex. The match gets underway at 11 a.m.
