BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's cross-country team competed at the Sunshine State Conference Championship on Saturday morning. Nova Southeastern University hosted the event at at South County Park. The Eagles finished in first place, marking the first Sunshine State Conference championship in ERAU Athletics history.
Embry-Riddle 1st of 9 teams
Not only was this the first conference championship for the Eagles since joining the SSC, this was the eighth conference championship in women's cross country history at Embry-Riddle. The Eagles won the event with a team score of 43 points. Saint Leo (47) finished in second while Florida Tech and Tampa tied for third (88). The Blue and Gold had a total time of 1:56:24.30 and an average time of 23:16.86.
Saint Leo's Colett Rampf won the event for the fourth straight year with a time of 21:20.79.
The Eagles
ERAU was incredible on the course with seven runners finishing in the top 25 and three runners finishing in the top 10.
Sarah Edens was the top finisher for the Blue and Gold as she placed second and had a time of 22:18.40.
Alex Orr finished fourth and had a personal best of 22:43.90.
Mikaela Hakamaa placed 10
th with a time of 23:34.35.
Kristen Metcalfe and Nicole Kvitkauskaus finished in 23:52.45 and 23:55.20 for 13
th and 14
th, respectively. Maggie Allen finished 21
st with a time of 24:25.41,
Eliza Gazda finished 28
th with a time of 24:52.55 and
Josie Gray finished 37
th with a time of 25:33.01.
Rosolino's Remarks
"Our women had a phenomenal race today. Everyone stepped up and had the best race of the season, with many dropping close to a minute from our last 6K. I am extremely proud of how they have pulled together, bonded and run for each other. This was an amazing team effort. We are really excited to be able to bring home Embry-Riddle's first ever Sunshine State Conference Championship."

The Eagles will be back in action on November 4
th when they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to compete in the NCAA South Region Championship at Holloway Park.
