DELAND, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle women's rowing team competed in its first-ever intercollegiate event on Saturday. The Eagles competed in a 3200m head race and a 1000m sprint at the Hatter Invitational hosted by Stetson on Lake Beresford.
The Blue and Gold raced against teams from NCAA I programs Stetson and Jacksonville, as well as Barry and Nova Southeastern from the Sunshine State Conference.
ERAU Head Coach
Jamie Francis entered a freshman novice boat in the Varsity 8+ and that crew placed eighth out of nine varsity crews in the 3200m. The freshman boat then went on to win Flight 3 in the sprint, beating Jacksonville's C entry by five seconds.
The Women's Novice 4+ placed 10
th out of 16 boats and was less than a second behind Stetson's A boat, while the Women's A boat finished 15 seconds later.
"I appreciate Katie at Stetson letting us come over to play this weekend." Francis said. "It was a good first race for our team so that they can start seeing what is required in order to be competitive at the collegiate level. We had a pretty good showing and I'm proud of the work the team has been putting in. We still have a lot to work on throughout the rest of the fall and the upcoming spring. I'm looking forward to racing at the Hooch this coming weekend to see where we stack against a larger crowd."
The Eagles travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the Head of the Hooch on Saturday, Nov. 4.
