DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 16th running of the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic took place on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Sports Complex as nearly 1,000 runners descended on ERAU's campus. The Embry-Riddle women claimed third place in the college women's race, totaling 62 points in their first race of the 2018 season.
Sarah Edens was the first Eagle to cross the finish line, finishing as the runner-up in 19:32.46. Running in her first meet as an Eagle,
Kara Funke ran a 20:12.67 to place sixth overall, followed closely by
Mikaela Hakamaa (20:23.85) in ninth.
Rachel Jones made her collegiate debut with a 21st-place finish in 20:54.39, and
Alex Orr rounded out the Eagle scorers in 24th place (21:05.78).
Josie Gray (21:37.91 - 33rd) claimed family bragging rights by edging her mother, Kristine Gray (21:55.25 - 41st) from Daytona State.
Ukeyvia Beckwith (21:50.37 - 39th), Maggie Allen (22:26.84 - 51st),
Kaitlyn Buck (23:03.35 - 58th) and
Sara Towers (23:30.46 - 68th) also competed for the Blue and Gold.
NCAA I Seton Hall won the 16-team event with 50 total points, followed by Sunshine State Conference member Florida Southern (60) and the Eagles (62).
"We had a solid meet today," Head Coach
Mike Rosolino said. "It was a very competitive meet with Seton Hall and Florida Southern. We will continue to build on this experience and work to get better for November. We had some really good individual performances today. It was great to be able to host so many good times on our course this morning!"
The Eagles will hit the road next weekend for the Mountain Dew Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida, on Saturday, Sept. 22 in Gainesville.
