SAINT LEO, Florida - On the same course that the NCAA II South Region Championship and NCAA II National Championship will be run on later this fall, the Embry-Riddle women's cross country team picked up a seventh-place finish at the NCAA II National Preview on Saturday. The Eagles scored 205 points overall on The Abbey Course in the 10-team race, hosted by Sunshine State Conference member Saint Leo.
Senior
Ukeyvia Beckwith made it three-for-three as the top Eagle finisher in the third consecutive race of 2021. Beckwith's time of 24:01.8 on the 6K course was the second-fastest of her career, and good for 30th overall.
Not far behind was
Rachel Jones in 36th with a time of 24:38.8, followed by
Kelly Steffens in 46th (24:44.8), who shattered her previous 6K-best time by two-and-a-half minutes.
Also running a personal-best 6K time was
Ravyn Edge in 57th (25:12.9), and
Grayson Iller (59th - 25:23.3) rounded out the Eagle scorers.
Maggie Allen (62nd - 25:33.4),
Sara Towers (67th - 25:57.1),
Brianna Grotzinger (70th - 26:18.4), and
Alaina Rider (71st - 26:21.6) all finished within 30 seconds of each other, with Towers' time the best of her Eagle career.
Also competing for the Blue and Gold were
Abby Valley (74th - 26:38.0),
Kaijah Ma (77th - 27:06.0),
Tara Gilligan (80th - 27:50.7),
Olivia Dalberg (86th - 29:43.3), and
Morgan Dudley (87th - 29:49.3).
Wingate (25) won the team race easily, followed by Tampa (65), Arkansas Tech (91), host Saint Leo (116) and Catawba (137) in the top five.
Embry-Riddle will race for the third straight weekend next Saturday at the University of Alabama-Hunstville Invitational at John Hunt Park.
